#1313 12m RFB Fast Interceptor
This 12m high speed interceptor craft was designed by LOMOcean and built in numbers by Destini Shipyard for the Royal Malaysian Police.
Although with the appearance of a typical RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat), the design instead makes use of a solid fender arrangement, consisting of a foam core coated with a resilient outer liner. Unlike inflatable fenders, in conditions where the fenders receive damage, solid fenders are able to maintain their shape and function – something of particular importance in combat situations where the boat and crew come under fire.
The use of shock absorbing seats and ballistic protection also add to the safety of the crew of 6.
Twin Yamaha F350AET 350 horsepower engines provide a top speed of 50 knots, and the hull form makes the most of a low centre of gravity and wide chines to maintain stability through tight or high speed cornering.
Overall dimensions and lightship displacement also allow for the vessel to be transported in the hold of a C-130 Hercules aircraft.
These vessels have been involved in ongoing operations with the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM), where the high speed, shallow draft and ballistic protection have proven invaluable.
