International Super Yacht of the Year Award

Ultimate Lady

1998

On Friday the 29th of October 1999, in conjunction with the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, LOMOcean Design was presented with the International Super Yacht Society Design Award in the 23 - 32m Power Category, for the design of the 26m wavepiercer, Ultimate Lady.

This is the first time that a New Zealand designer has ever won this most prestigious of awards and LOMOcean Design joined the ranks of the world's top super yacht designers.

The 26m Ultimate Lady was built in Auckland; launched in August of 1998 she is believed to be the first ever luxury wavepiercer catamaran. Prior to construction, the hull form was tank tested at the Australian Maritime College in Launceston and proved to be the most efficient catamaran ever tested at the facility.

The World Powerboat Circumnavigation Record

Earthrace

2008

In June 2008, the LOMOcean designed Earthrace made history by smashing the previous World powerboat circumnavigation record by two full weeks - a record that has been un-beaten for a decade. Furthermore, Earthrace was able to achieve this running on 100% bio-fuel. LOMOcean wish to congratulate the Earthrace crew and supporters for this incredible achievement.

Super Yacht Society International Design Award Finalist

Sampitres

2002

Designed by LOMOcean and meticulously crafted by Vaudrey Miller boat-builders in Auckland, Sampitres was named a finalist of the 2002 Super Yacht Society International Design awards in the 23 - 32m category. With a beam of only 6.2 metres and overall length of 25.2 metres, Sampitres was designed to fit into tight harbours in the Mediterranean, where she spent a large amount of time. This part of the design brief required an extreme amount of research to gain high efficiency and transatlantic range with such a narrow beam multihull craft.

The panel of judges, including design legends Glade Johnson and Bruce Farr, commented that the design had the all important "X" factor. Wavepiercer WP50 is the big sister to the award-winning Ultimate lady.

Boating NZ Magazine Fishing boat of the year

Sportsfisher

1994

Another break-through for the LOMOcean Design team was the Boating NZ Magazine award for its sportsfisher walk-around "Tournament" line of boats. Whilst Tournament 7 was named the Fishing Boat of the Year in 1994, the current and tastefully refined Tournament models are still being produced in New Zealand.

Powerboat Race Organisation efficiency award

Tournament 8

1993

As a testament to the ongoing research and development into hull efficiency, the LOMOcean designed Tournament 8 was awarded the Powerboat Race Organisation Efficiency award. This award is calculated based on the weight of the boat, the average speed maintained, the installed power and the overall fuel consumption, over the full distance of the race course. To this day, LOMOcean Design holds numerous efficiency records in the Tasmanian tank testing facility in Launceston, topping the list off with one of the most efficient catamarans ever tested at the facility.
