#2328 Range Catamarans Sailing Cat
This 51′ sailing catamaran was specifically designed for experienced game fisherman, Tony Orton (https://journeyofafisherman.com/) as a liveaboard ocean cruiser for him and his young family, that also allows him to indulge in his passion for sports fishing around the globe.
Built to high standards by respected New Zealand yard Legacy Marine (https://www.legacymarine.co.nz/) , the Range 51 is structurally designed to the DNV Yacht Code and constructed in welded aluminium – a material chosen for it’s toughness, ease of repair and sustainability (approximately 75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use thanks to it’s ease of recyclability).
Tony’s boat is the first of what is expected to be a popular new brand addition to the multi-hull cruising fleet, and plans are already afoot to expand the design range with both larger and smaller versions all built exclusively by Legacy Marine.
In addition to it’s three spacious cabins, two bathrooms, open plan galley and saloon, plus forward sailing cockpit and aft al fresco dining and relaxing area, the boat offers unique fishing cockpits in each demi-hull stern, set up to offer safe, clutter free spaces allowing Tony to safely fight a fish in oceanic conditions. At anchor, the transoms fold down to form convenient platforms for access to the water and tender. A conventional transom option will also be offered, giving purchasers the choice of sport fish, or sport cruiser models.
Featuring a carbon mast and boom as standard from NZ Spars and Rigging (http://www.nzrigging.com) with sail wardrobe by Evolution Sails (https://www.evolutionsails.com/) the Range 51 promises 200 mile days under sail – and importantly for Tony in familiar areas around Central America where windless days are common – also under motor, courtesy of twin Yanmar 4JH diesels turning reliable, shaft driven and skeg protected propellers. Future vessels will be offered with hybrid/electric options.
Follow the journey of Tony, partner Bea and their young children here (https://www.youtube.com/c/JourneyofaFisherman) as they design, build, launch and commission their dream boat – then set sail, exploring less travelled parts of the world – and all the time, chasing fish.
